Lyrics by Edgar Allan Poe and Rusty Reid Holster, Music by Rusty Reid Holster

The beloved Edgar Allan Poe poem has been set to music before... but not like this. Most previous renditions have taken a pessimistic, droning, minor key approach, perhaps overly influenced by Poe's horror story repertoire, as well as duels with his own internal demons. Rusty's bouncy song, in a more hopeful major key, continues on where the poem leaves us hanging, sending the protagonist riding boldly "over the mountains of the moon," where he eventually realizes where and what Eldorado really is.

Gaily bedight, a gallant knight
In sunshine and in shadow
Had journeyed long, singing a song
In search of ELDORADO.

But he grew old, this knight so bold
And o'er his heart a shadow.
Fell as he found no spot of ground
That looked like ELDORADO.

And as his strength failed him at length
He met a pilgrim shadow.
Shadow, said he, where can it be
This land of ELDORADO?

Over the mountains of the moon
And down the valley of the shadow,
Ride, boldly ride, the shade replied
If you seek for ELDORADO.

Brightly enlight, the wandering knight
Crossed the mountains and below.
He never found that spot of ground,
But he finally knew ELDORADO.
He never found that spot of ground,
Inside is where hides ELDORADO.
Inside is where hides ELDORADO.

Ride, boldly ride.
